MSchnitzler2000 Volleyball - DVV-Pokal
Every year, the German football players want to reach the cup final in Berlin. The volleyball teams yearn for a ticket to the Gerry-Weber-Stadium in Halle (Westphalia) where the finals of the DVV-Pokal (the German national cup) take place every year at the beginning of march. I went to the final with evivo Düren twice in the last years. We did not get a title, but many positive impressions.
general informationThe German cup competition takes place for women and men simultaneously. The current Bundesliga teams enter the tournament in the round of 16. Four more participants for this round are determined in eight regional competitions. From the round of 16 the matches are played in the single knockout mode with the lower class teams playing at home. current season 2010/11At the end of November, the competition traditionally started with the round of 16. The complete season is presented in the "Liga Manager Online". Men 2010/11 Women 2010/11 all winnersIn west Germany the cup competition began twenty years later than in East Germany, namely in 1973. The most successful teams of the first years, the Hamburger SV and 1860 Munich, are today only known by football. In 1998 the dominance of Friedrichshafen began, which was only broken once. In the last two years Haching wrote a new name on the winner's list. In the female tournament the teams from Münster, Lohhof and Feuerbach were the most frequent titleholders before the "Wende". In the unified Germany CJD Berlin won the first four titles before the well-known names from Münster, Dresden and Schwerin succeeded. In 2008 and 2009 Suhl and Vilsbiburg won their first titles in the DVV cup. The complete Hall of Fame of the German cup competition can be found in the Wikipedia. Season 2009/10 - again in the finalThe way to Halle was not easy for evivo. In the round of 16 we were confronted with an apparently easy, but nevertheless dangerous task in the neighbour duel against Leverkusen, the top team of the second Bundesliga. The quarterfinal was one more chapter in the eternal duel Düren versus Berlin which was only decided in the tie-break. It seemed obvious that Düren would be eliminated in the semi final after seeing the drawing of lots. But the almighty VfB Friedrichshafen, who had solved two easy tasks before, again lost an away match at December 30. So we could enter the special train to Halle again. There we met Haching, who had defeated a second divison team as well as Moers and Rottenburg. Excellent Düren supporters who build a red-white wall, saw their team very close to the first title. But at the end we had to go home with a sad 2:3 defeat. As my own photos of the final unfortunately got lost, I invite you to take a look at the Moskitos gallery. In the women's final there was an East German duel. Dresden, who had qualified with a narrow victory against Schwerin, won against the team from Suhl, which had stopped the titleholder Vilsbiburg in the semi final. Cup final 2008 with evivo DürenOn March 9, 2008 a dream came true for the team and supporters of evivo Düren. The "best in the west" faced the VfB Friedrichshafen in the cup final. The "Moskitos" travelled in a special train to Halle and tried to help their team to win the first title ever. Unfortunately, evivo was defeated by the titleholder in the tiebreak after an exciting match. My photos are documents from the perspective of a supporter. On the following evening there was a party at the café "Extrablatt" in Düren. If the slide show does not work, you can view the photos in the Flickr gallery.
