DVV The national teams are the elite of German volleyball. Especially due to the success of the teams led by Raul Lozano and Giovanni Guidetti, 2009 was one of the most successful years for the German Volleyball Federation. In 2010, the men continued their advancement with several victories in the World League. The World Championships will begin at the end of September.

 Men

Since 2009 the men are coached by the Argentinian Raul Lozano, who followed Stelian Moculescu after the Olympic Games 2008. The historically greatest victories so far were achieved by the team of the German Democratic Republic, but during the last years the current team has approached the top of world volleyball. After winning the European League the team with many players from Haching also convinced the fans in the World League, which was a good test for the World Championship.

The World Championship is the next practical test for the upcoming German team. In the preliminary matches in Triest, Germany will face Poland as in the World League. The other opponents are Serbia and Canada.

most recent results in important tournaments
  • By winning seven out of twelve matches in the World League 2010, our team reached the second rank in the preliminary group behind Cuba and so achieved a better result than the current European and Vice World Champion Poland.
  • Before this, Germany won the European League 2009 for the first time.
  • At the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing, the German squad participated for the first time since the home tournament 1972. But they had to leave the tournament after the preliminary round as the last-but-one in their group.
  • At the European Championship 2007 in Russia our guys were ranked fifth after being pipped by Serbia.
  • At the World Championship 2006 in Japan, Germany won the ninth-place-match against the United States after playing an average tournament.

 Women

Giovanni Guidetti is the man in charge of the women's team. The Italian integrated many young players into the team.

current tournaments: Grand Prix and World Championships 2010
Before going to the World Championships, the German team has to play the Grand Prix. The opponents at the tournaments in August are Poland, the US, the Dominican Republic, Japan, South Korea, China and Thailand.
At the World Championship in Matsumoto, Germany will face Kazachstan, Cuba, the US, Croatia and Thailand.

recent results in important tournaments
  • In the final round of the Grand Prix 2009 Germany was ranked third behind Brazil and Russia.
  • At the European Championship 2009 in Poland, our girls only lost the third-place-match against the host.
  • Germany could not qualify for the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing, although they had the home advantage at the tournament in the Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle.
  • At the World Championship 2006 in Japan our team had to content themselves with winning the eleventh-place-match against Taiwan.
