The world is neither perfect nor fair. All around the world there are people whose life is not affected by health, joy and wealth. We must help these poor people! Fortunately there are numerous organisations which contribute in different ways.
Here I present some important organisations which I actively and expressly support. The French author Alexandre Dumas senior once said: Glücklicher als der Glücklichste ist, wer andere Menschen glücklich machen kann.
(Happier than the happiest is who can make other people happy.)
Please take these words to heart and have a share in making the world a better place. You won't regret it!
Blood donationEvery healthy person from 18 to 68 years can donate blood several times in a year. Half a liter is taken without any problems for the donor and can save a life in a foreign body. Every donor gets a ID card which contains information about the blood type and the dates of the donations. Since October 2006 I'm a regular donor at the DRK (German Red Cross). Blood group 0, Rh factor Rh neg. / ccddee, Kell system Kell neg.

People suffering from leukemia often have only one hope. They must find an adequate bone marrow donor to escape death. A successful stem cell transplantation requires the accordance of special attributes of the tissue (the HLA types). But there are more than 2,000 of them which can appear in millions of combinations, so the search is extremely difficult.
Therefore it is important that as many people as possible typify their stem cells, e.g. at the DKMS (German database of bone marrow donors). Every healthy person from 18 to 55 years can take part. Only some drops of blood or a smear of the mouth are taken. If you are chosen as a potential donor, the stem cells are either taken from the pelvic bone or built with the help of a hormone injection. A small, harmless intervention which can save the life of a person! On the 18th of March 2007 I got my typification with the donor number KRZ0013324913/7 during an event in Kreuzau-Üdingen. Since about twenty years, the group Ayuda from Düren with the chairman Harald Schmidt-Hurtienne supports poor people in Peru. Their work began with the construction of a school in Cusco. The next projects were a kindergarten in the northern regions of the country and a school for blind and severely disabled people in Trujillo. Furthermore the support from Germany helped in establishing a health post.
